2006 bmw x5 losing oil

Asked by puttingbreadonthetab... Mar 01, 2020 at 08:31 PM about the 2006 BMW X5 3.0i AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I could use some help. I have a bmw x5 2006 with 113,000 miles. It was losing
a lot of oil and the mechanic said it was a leak. He fixed the leak. The next
week white smoke came out of the exhaust twice. Also now after 3 months
after the repaired leak the car is out of oil. The mechanic said it's burning oil.
He recommend placing a higher grade of oil.

I am not sure this will be fix. Any other suggestions? Also I only saw the white
smoke twice. Thanks in advance

White smoke when the engine is warmed up indicates a possible bad head gasket. You should never run the engine out of oil as this ruins the engine. Top it off with the correct BMW approved oil and check the level weekly. Determine how many miles it takes to lose one quart of oil. A quart in 2,000 miles is not so bad.

O rings... $3000 fix. Mine used to smoke like a biker at a GNR concert. Got that done, all labor $... now it doesn’t smoke at all.
