Can a blown clutch slave be the result of a worn throwout bearing?

Asked by Duane Nov 30, 2015 at 07:52 PM about the 1996 BMW Z3 1.9 Roadster RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A couple of weeks ago, the throwout
bearing started squealing. I was trying to
drive it as little as possible until I could
save enough to get it repaired. A tire on the
car developed a slow leak, so I  brought the
car in to have Walmart TLE look at it. When
the kid finished the repair, he says he got in,
started the car up, and pressed on the
clutch to back out.The clutch pedal popped
and went right to the floor. When he and the
shop manager investigated, they found a
pool of hydraulic fluid under the car. I'm
assuming it's from a blown out slave
cylinder. Should I persue Walmart for the
damage or is this something that was
related to the bad bearing?
Thanks!
Duane

No you can't. All he did was step on the clutch. Not their fault that it was wearing out. The slave cylinder would have to ben adjusted wrong to cause the throw-out bearing to wear out by someone. There is a return spring that keeps the throw-out bearing away from the pressure plate, so it is not spinning all the time. So the slave cylinder probably just popped due to age, along as the throw-out bearing. Best save up some more money to get a total clutch replacement. It all is probably due.

Thank you guys! I appreciate your answers. It definitely looks like it's going to be sitting for quite awhile now!
