Do I need to do something ASAP if the battery light went on, yet the car is working.

It means your battery is not getting the full amount of charge -- it is also a charge light. It usually means that the alternator is going bad.
same answer as above............check the alternater as soon as possible. if your not getting a charge, your battery will eventually run down
While it could be the alternator, you could also have a bad cell in your battery. When was the last time you had it changed? Personally, I got nearly 12 years out of original factory unit.
Charging system issue, normally caused by bad alternator not a battery. The battery may still be damaged from the alternator not charging it though. Put a volt meter between the two posts on the battery is should read 13 to 14.8v if its lower then 13v with vehicle running then you have a charging system issue. Hope this helps.
If you are still driving the car around, make sure you trickle charge the battery overnight every night to avoid being stranded by a dead battery!
auto zone, advanced, chain parts stores, check the charging system for free, allow them to diagnose which is at fault, could be corrosion on a connector, many possibilities, I don't recommend buying the parts from there, as it is a Z, but gives you a place to start,
Alternator and battery are both testing good what else could the battery light be ?
