Car stalls out on my 2001 Volkswagen cabrio when I hit the gas

Left key in the forward position all  night had to have it jump
started now it stalls out when you hit the accelerator

probably a faulty sensor or fuel pump, is the check engine on? if possible take it to autozone to scan it..
