I very rarely us my AC, i prefer driving with the windows down so i'm not sure how long ago it was, but i've just noticed my AC doesn't work.. what could be the problem

the freon in your car has leaked out and now there isnt enough pressure in the system to allow the compressor to engage. go to your local autoparts retailer and get a freon booster with stopleak. they should be able to help you with the fix.

You need to check the pressure in the ac lines first. So many possibilities of things it could be. For example: Low pressure...Bad compresser...Bad pressure sensor....Blown fuse.....Bad relay....etc.... Most repair shops will do an AC check for $50 - $100.
it could be anything from a machanical mail-function in the compressor, through a torn electrical wire in the deshboard to a burnt fuse. its impossible to tell without checking the car...
