Starter

Asked by GuruVFKN2 Sep 15, 2018 at 01:41 AM about the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban C1500 LS RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Original starter got so hot going down the road, we smelled it and my husband told me to get out now.  Have tried two replacements, but, once in the vehicle, they don't work. Husband tests them before placing them in the vehicle and they worked fine.

With car in the air SAFELY use a short jumper wire to jumper from the battery stud on the solenoid to the S terminal on the solenoid engine should crank normally if no. one of the cables is bad or dirty if the starter engages but doesn't crank engine check for locked engine, If this doesn't help you we're right here If there is a R terminal on the solenoid it's not used only S

Most likely it is your positive battery. It is possliby severly corrododed causing a lot of resistance and making your starter run hot.
