Will the suspension on a 2000 Jetta fit on a 96 Jetta? Shocks.. Springs..Wheel and brake assembly?

most likely will they should be the same body style. Tho you do take a risk at some disembalence betwen the two cars. Any a4 the same year will be compatable as well. But if i were going for it i would jsut buy them new unless you need to save money.
The 96 Jetta is an A3 platform, I believe. The Mk4 (A4 platform) Jetta showed up in the middle of 1999.

Scott is right. Suspensions are completely different.
What about everything below the shock? Wheel assembly brakes bearings etc
The situation is complex...the lower control arm dimensions and mounting points are different. The axle lengths and CV splines can be different. If you have a ton of Mk4 parts just lying around and want to try to fit them, go for it. But, I suggest you have a machinist, a welder, and loan officer on retainer.
