Hi grantg, As far as I can tell, the 2 model years are the same. I would think that you could use 1994 Jetta parts on a 1997. Good luck!
Isn't a 94 a MKIII and a 97 a MKIV? I guess some parts might be interchangeable, but not completely.

as far as I know some jetta parts from 1994 model fits or interchangeable with higher model just like the cylinder head gasket that I bought last month the part is for 1994 to 2004. I am uncertain with other parts.
depends on what parts your swapping all parts will fit on either car, the "Trek" addition is only a name and some upgraded features like a roof rack with a bike when bought new from the dealer, special badging ect, but if your getting into engine or trany parts then the engine has to be the same, or if its the trany then you have to check the trany code on side of casting to check for gear ratio differences.
Mk4 are actually 1999.5-2004 But yes, most of the parts shouldl fit.
the Jetta Trek had nothing really different about it besides it came with a roof rack. Pretty much any part from a 94 will fit a 97 besides a few motor parts here and there.
Well mk3 Passat sedan doors fit on a mk3 Jetta sedan
