Question type: General

I've been going threw questions asked in this site and I have noticed alot of questions about vdubs and the type of oil to run in them. This is for anyone who needs to know ALL 1998 vdubs and older need 15W40 diesel grade doesn't matter if its a gas engine or not, 1.8,1.6,2.0,1.9 15W40 failure to do so will result in oil pressure lights flashing severe engine damage over time. You can ask any Volkswagen dealer they will tell you the same thing. I just don't want to see anyone new to the world of older vdubs ruining there engines by something so simple to avoid. Everyone should own a vdub.

I'm not sure on that old, theres next to none around here nor have I ever known anyone to have a Vdub that old, if I were you just phone the dealer on that if they don't know (which I wouldn't be surprised) then let me know I do have a mechanic friend from Germany living in Ontario and he's been fixing vdubs for the past 50 years so he would know.

Sorry mut my father is a VW specialist and we only own vw's and we put 10w30 grade in them putting 15w40 is absurd anyway your choice... i own a 1992 jetta gli with a 2.0l 16v and never got problems with oil pressure and nothing else...

I had an '86 Jetta gas powered and it went 490,000 km with 5W30. Sure it had the oil light issue but that only happened once in a while.
