Is 240000 too many km for a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta to buy?

Asked by Nicsherman Dec 02, 2014 at 10:42 AM about the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8T

Question type: General

I'm looking into buying a 2001
Volkswagen Jetta. It has 240000km
but I would only be driving it to
school and back and just around
town.

Leather
Heated seats
4 New Tires
Lowered
Remote start
Turbocharged
New timing belt
New water pump
New struts and suspension tuneup
Limo tint back windows
Cruise control

Has all the above and it being sold
for $3500 OBO. I don't want to be
buying something that is going to be
breaking down on me or needing
work done all the time. Got a budget.
Thanks for your help, feel free to
recommend any other similar cars !

Based on your description of what you are looking for, I would definitely not recommend a European car. Even if it was well taken care of, they are not know for reliability and they're expensive when they do have problems. I would look for a good Asian import car that you have checked out to make sure the maintenance has been kept up with. (Find out if car has a timing belt and ask when it was changed)
