MK4 Jetta 2.0 cranks NO START after Camshaft install

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced the camshaft and all lifters, heater core, and speed sensor. Car
won’t start after repairs even w/ new battery. Cranks for days but seems like it
doesn’t even try. I have verified the timing 5 times (with cam gear mark and
crank pully mark), spark plug is wet but electrode is dry after cranking. Fuel
pump primes when key is in on position. Fuses are all good. Starting fluid in
intake has made it start twice, but very rough and only for a few seconds. I’m
90% sure there’s no vacuum leak. Really stumped on this one, any help
would be immensely appreciated. I’m not a master mechanic, but I know my
way around. Thanks in advance!

180 degrees off - check that #1 is building compression on it's upstroke (loosen plug listen for air or cover w/ finger) Do this by hand, not cranking obviously - all other plugs out. Had this problem years ago - marks lined up, but were 180 degrees off. Good luck

Did u ever figure out thr problem mine is doing the exact same thing except no work had ben done it just stall while going thur my niebor hood key did seem to start so popes tge clutch and it took a sec but it fired back pulled in when to start about 10 min later cranks weak and epc and engine light came on does attempt to start
