key wont turn to the ignition position

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2000 Jetta, stopped at a stoplight and would not restart again, key will turn to accessory
but will not move past to ignition to start the car.

Are you saying you can't physically turn the key to the start position? You may have a bad ignition switch/lock cylinder...

Ignition switch/lock cylinder, or neutral safety switch

well you can always jump the car to start it but yea they are all probably right the cylinder lock probably busted

Old post but still want to put this out there for others. My Jetta does this. Obviously needs to be replaced. Don't do it yourself or even try! Seriously go in for that. When my ignition does this, Move steering wheel up and down with the tilt. Keep trying while you do. Eventually it will go. Sometimes takes awhile.

jiggle it around a little and make sure the steering wheel is not leaning on the lock pin
