how to read the key code on the ignition

I replaced the ignition with an after market one. The one I pulled out has
811915/97 on it. I can't find this code? My book shows it should start with the
letters (AN) followed by numbers 1-9282 how do I read these, I want to make a
key that will work the locks. How do I read this code?

I am a locksmith and still can't make sense of the number on the ignition,, my fast facts (locksmith book) shows a different number as well as my 1200 code machine- key cutting machine?
a new key cut or not still needs to be coded unfortunately. im not a lock smith so i don't know how its done. a few forums boards suggested only a vw dealer can code the keys i doubt it but it may be the option you may have to do unless you can kind another locksmith that knows how to do it.
