2001 VW Jetta GLS 2.0 doesn't accelerate

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello:

I have a 2001 VW Jetta GLS 2.0 liter that has been causing me problems ever since I had the fuel injectors cleaned at a Grease Monkey about six months ago.  I didn't notice the problem right away so I'm not sure that had anything to do with it.  Now, when I start the car blue smoke comes out of the exhaust pipe, the car idles rough, sometimes pressing the accelerator has no effect for a few seconds and it has lost all power.  It seems to be getting worse by the week.  Any ideas?  Could this simply be an oxygen sensor?  Would changing my plugs and wires help?  Could I have a bad ECM?  This is what a VW dealer told me over a year ago before I had this problem.  I can smell the gas sometimes so it's obvious to me it's running too rich.  Where should I start first?  Oh, I have 102K miles on it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Neener, If the smoke is blue (and not black) then you're definitely burning oil. It sounds like your "Grease Monkey" may have cleaned a little too much of your fuel system and eaten away at the manifold and/or head gaskets. Replacing these gaskets is not normally something your "average Joe" could accomplish over the course of a weekend. If this is in fact the case I would take it in to a trusted mechanic for further diagnosis. Best of luck!

Jw I’m having the same issue but I’m not losing coolant or any fluids just smoking grey with a rough idle parts store said probably a injector is half clogged no loss of power or anything just a rough idle and smokes grey
