I have 2001 VW Jetta 2.0 It's an automatic and it shift into every gear but when it tries to shift into 3rd it goes into high rpms and then drops. I don't know what's wrong with it??

sounds like 3rd gear is blown is thire a check engin light on

your looking at a trany rebuild hope you have over 2000$ for that a used trany will run you up 1500$ as well.

I have the exact same problem and once i slow down and accelerate below 3000 rpm and get past 40mph its all good. I decided to change the tranny of my 2001 Jetta Gls you need to find your tranny code its a three letter code either FDF or EPG and this is important since each code is for different gear ratios. Add me skype id victor.lebron3312 if you send me your vin number i can tell you the tranny code. I can get this tranny for 350 plus 350 for labor, 700 total installed.

I have a 2003 VW Jetta that runs fine except sometimes it will not shift from 1st into 2nd. It's an automatic. I've taken it to the dealer and a mechanic. Dealer said new transmission $5000. The mechanic put a cleaner in the fluid but nothing works. A code came up for TCM however, they said it was not that. It runs great when it runs but you never know when it will do it. Any ideas?
