I'm stranded. My 2001 Volkswagen Jetta will not start. All the lights come on, but the cranking noise stopped as well. What do I do and how can I fix it?

Do what Tom said and if you don't have it towed directly to a Dealer or shop to be fixed, It being Sunday, if you just have it brought home, come back here when you can and describe what happened in detail ... and we will be happy to try to help you out with your car

But will the lights and stuff still come on even if the battery is dead?
No, not if the battery is dead dead but it can be weak and have enough voltage and amperage for lights but it takes much more to crank the engine
were you driving the car when this happened or did it plain and simply not turn over. I had something simalur where it did not turn over after i parked it. Crawl under the car if you can and check out the wire that goes between the points and the cylanoid. it more then likely has rotted off like mine did. in the picture i provided is the wire that conmanly rots off of the audi and vw starters
