Asked by humney541 Feb 11, 2015 at 08:41 PM about the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5L

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So, the car slips in the 3rd gear when it gets hot. Then if it gets even hotter, it on all gears, except from 1 - 2. I got an estimate and they said it would cost around 2000 to get an old one and around 2500 to rebuild it. The mechanic also mentioned something about the valves, but if the valves are damaged and the transmission is changed, would that be worse? So, my fellow experts, what do I do?

I do like the car. But what I am asking is, what is better, to rebuild the transmission or buy a used one? I mean, for the long run.
