Shut off

Asked by Skier4life04 Dec 02, 2018 at 07:57 PM about the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5L

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 vw jetta 2.0 turbo... it randomly shuts off on
me when driving or idling with no warning whatsoever.
After it dies there is a sound coming from the block, kind of
sounds like something is seized up... the car will not start
back sometimes and when it wont if I unhook the battery to
reset the system it will start back. I fixed 2 small vacuum
leaks and cleaned the MAF! Any suggestions on where to
look? Also the EPC light comes on when this happens, until
I reset the system. Thank you

That EPC light might be setting a fault code that you should scan and read. That will tell what's going wrong. Resetting the light does not fix the problem, it just deletes the code until it happens again.

I realize that and I did, it points to everything, lol... it's an emissions code, not very helpful, that's why I came here... thank you though... I'm hoping to find someone that had the same problem... I was resetting the system so it would start back up.
