Fan keeps running after car is shut off

When i shut my car off the cooling fan
continues to run. Sometimes if I restart the
car and shut it off the fan wil turn off
sometimes it won't and I have to take the fuse
out to make it stop running.

Your car doesnt just magically get cold just because the car is off. The fan usually does run after it is shut off to cool it back down..... most fans you just can't really here. The bigger problem is if it didnt run... walk away and come back in 10 min. Is it still on? No? Can you start the car? If yes, your fine. If it killed your battery by running constantly, usually fan relay
@walruswife I understand what you’re saying but this is definitely more than just cooling the engine my Jetta has been doing the same thing to the point where the battery dies and the fan is roaring
I have a 2019 vw Jetta. My fan runs constantly while driving. I just started noticing this. Plus runs ten to fifteen minutes after turning it off. My vws did this but not this long
Ive had a 2019 vw jetta for the last 5 months and just started to notice the fan runs constantly while driving and even a few sec/mins when turned off, it did not do this until the other day.

I agree with the family first answer that the fan continues to run after the engine shut off, and within 10 minutes it must turn off. However, if it continues to run, and my opinion, either the fan relay stuck close, and there is an issue with the engine control module. The first attempt would be to replace the relay.

I have a 2013 vw Jetta about 5 months now and only recently(this week) noticed the engine fan staying on, even in 5/10 minute journeys. The engine couldnt need that much cooling after a short journey surely?
I don't think any of you understand what he is saying. I understand that is normal that fans usually run for a couple of minutes after the engines is shut off, but his issue is it runs forever until the battery dies. I only know that cause it is happening to my fiance's 2014 VW passat TDI. I started doing some research and that's how I ended up here. From what I've read, this is a common problem on VW and Audis. It has something to do with either the Fan Relay getting stuck on close contact or the coolant temperature sensor or the fan control module. I am just trying to figure out how to troubleshoot which one it is.

Beto, I have a 2014 TDI sportwagen doing the exact same thing. Let me know what you find out please! Dealership quoted me 1200 to replace fans. What a joke.
Any solution found to the VW Jetta fan run on. My daughters,..sorry correction, one of my car's is doing the same.

i can'i believe these non answers for the VW"S . such a wide spread problem should have a direct way to solve it. but seems its just a money making deal for either your local mechanic or the vw dealership.
Went outside to start car and sounded as if it was already started. The fan was running and the car won’t start
There is the explanation from someone VW dealership: "It’s cold outside; you went for only a short trip up the road, the engine is not even warm yet but when you shut the engine off and get out you notice the cooling fans buzzing away like they do on a hot summer day. This can’t be normal, right? This is a common concern with new Clean Diesel owners and rightfully so. The thought of walking away from your Volkswagen with the cooling fans buzzing away leaves most people with images in their heads of dead batteries and tow trucks. Rest assured—this is in fact normal operation. The after-running of the cooling fans is deliberate and can sometimes last up to 16 minutes after switching the engine off. The after-running process prevents excessive engine compartment temperatures caused by the diesel particulate filter regeneration cycle. The cooling fans may continue to run even after driving less then 2 m. TDI Clean Diesel Technically-speaking, this process involves rapidly heating up the diesel particulate filter to temperatures nearing 650 degrees Celsius in an effort to burn off trapped soot inside the diesel particulate trap. Since the vehicle does not know you are only going on a short trip, it may start this process just before you arrive at your destination and now that engine is switched off and the vehicle is stationary the system will self-activate the cooling fans at high speed in an attempt to bring down those high temperatures now trapped below the hood. When the temperature falls into acceptable range the fans will stop automatically. Bonus point: some new TDI owners have also reported an odd odour describing it as a “burning smell”. This burning smell is also a byproduct of the regeneration cycle and caused by the rapid burning off of the accumulated soot in the particulate filter and is considered normal operation as your Volkswagen is doing everything it was designed to do and doing its best to keep the air we breathe as clean as possible."
I gave my son my 2019 Jetta do to it being g a 4 door and he has little ones and needs the rear seat. He came home from work parked the car next day dead battery. 2 days has gone by before I had a chance to jump it and move it to the garage, 100 yards. Battery stone dead. Put the charger in it battery gets to 5 percent and bam, both vans came on and stayed on for 10 min. then shut off. 5 min later bam they both come back on now this is a cold car that moved a 100 yards and fans are cycling. This is not the diesel but the gas engine. It is cycling on a cold day on an engine that ran for 5 min. and moved a 100 yards. Why? Not a relay, or it would not cycle on and off.
