Fan Control Module Relay Installation Time

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Im trying to find out how long it should take a
skilled mechanic to replace a fan control module
relay in an 05 Jetta GLS 2.0. The shop is telling me
an hour but I don't really see how it can take more
than 15 minutes. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

They may not want to bother with a $20 repair. One hour may be their minimum.

But does 15 minutes sound like the right amount of time it should take?

I do not know. German cars are a pain in the ass to work on. If it is that easy maybe you should do it?

They pull out and plug back in ... It's so simple that a Cave Man Can do it ,,, what surprises me is if they checked the car and found a bad relay ..why they didn't change it ...UNLESS .. someone told you that your problem was a relay then you called for a price..... Your 'Free advice" may cost you lots of money because your problem can be anything from the Fan Motor to a wiring issue ....

That's the problem, I don't know how hard this one is to change. It's not just a plug in relay. It's a module that bolts to the underside of the battery housing and then wire clips plug into it. The shop is calling for an hour of labor but that just seems excessive to me. I'd rather do it myself if it's only going to take 15 minutes but I have a broken back so working on or under a car engine is very difficult for me. I've just spent over a grand at this repair shop. They'll only charge me for the labor time it actually ends up taking them. But if it's going to be an hour, I'll do it myself. Thanks for the answers but I think someone familiar with this specific module on this car is the only one who's going to be able to answer this.

I just seen this I hope you have had time to reconsider the 15 minutes this job is rather a simple job but it is a job that can have issues like all thing there is variables that you just can't count on I think 1 hr is a very good price for this job.
