Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hoping to contact a VW tech. My VW local dealership are jerks. Here is my problem...

At complete random intervals, for no reason, the sunroof will open. We very rarely open it as it is incredibly HOT here most of the time. Is there a sensor or saftey system in the vehicle that would cause it?

Just curious...

Newer car with less then 50K miles on it, doubt it is a short. I have never heard of a BCM messing with sunroof. I know some audis and porsches have sensors to roll up windows if it starts raining, I am not sure if it is some kind of safety system to control extreme interior temperatures?????

Just so You know...Volkswagen was gracious enough to develop whats called a "Hi! Im Sweating!..." sensor.....When the temperature in the car(Or near the sensor) reaches above 80* it opens the sunroof in the "Vent" position....then auto closes when temperature drops back down... NOT.. :-) easy fix for you...its a faulty switch in the panel......Pull off the cover(Careful though...vw plastic is extremely breakable :))...unscrew the switch fixture ....and on the back of the switch.."Pop" off the connection...Wipe off with Alcohol and Q-Tips...and TaDa! a non pocessed sunroof fix :-) P.S. for BEST fix.....Buy some Clear silicone caulking and "Seal" the switch connection.....The Main issue with 98 - 2004 was how bad Humidity and Moisture (Of course Leaking from the sunroof as well) damages switches and modules in the overhead and middle compartments (No insulation...No hope)..... Any other questions feel free to email or call. I attempt to help the best I can... (If my smart ass comments were offensive...I apologize. Good luck and enjoy) ------------ Jeremy Taulborg Owner/Technician Redline Motorsports (626)737-8805 redlinemotorsports@inbox.com
