Car engine shutting off while driving

Asked by GuruYZW4C Feb 21, 2018 at 02:10 PM about the 2000 Volkswagen Passat GLS V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

While driving my car it will begin to putter as if I’m running
out of gas, and will begin to lose power and then just shut
off. The check engine light will flash while dying and for a
bit after wards. When the car dies all lights and radio
stays on, just the engine stops. When I try to restart it the
engine will turn over but will enentually start up, after a
few minutes the light stops flashing and it drives just fine.
Can anyone tell me what this issue could be?

Light flashes due to a misfire, have the codes read, most auto part stores will do it at no charge.

Chances are you have a misfire, and your coil packs need attention.

This is due to the recall of the fuel pump control module. Call VW and reference recall #20AE.

My 06 Golf will drive fine for around 45 minutes then stall out, it takes a few try’s to turn back over and it will continue to putter and lose power. I have no idea what the hell is wrong with it
