I drove 8 hours out of town and my brakes were
fine now they are making a grinding noise when I
brake, will they be ok to drive back home I don't
have the money to get them repaired before I leave

You should at least get some cheap pad put on, the brakes grinding mean your down to steel, it would not be safe, no braking power to stop.
