what would cause the car not to shift gears after going into reverse?

Asked by migration_mommabree7... Sep 24, 2013 at 04:08 PM about the 2004 Volkswagen Passat GLS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I pull into a place and then put in reverse, I sometimes have to turn engine off and
then back on or it will not shift gears. What could cause that?

okay, check the transmission mount by stuffin' a floor jack with woodblock under there...not the separation of the transmission mount....replace~

NOTE the separation....not...not~...if not the thing is cohesive would look for a bent link or one that simply need a bit of lubrication...have had marvelous results with tri-flow lubricant (the kind Olympic bicyclists lube their chains with) on anything moving...WD-40 is a water-displacer and great for getting the high-voltage to behave itself...BUT is NOT a lubricant...tri-flow is a superior lubricant~
