Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 passat woth 100k. Got some gas and
was on my way to work. My check engine light was
already on but car was running fine when i seen
the epc light ,battery light come on at the same
time. Car shut off and has not came back on since
it tries to turnover but doesnt. Some one told me it
may be the timing belt and cost 1,800 to fix please
give me some other reasons this may be
