Well someone tried to save a few bucks in the past and now it's time to pay up. First, a thermostat is needed. The water runs too fast through the system it does not have tome to slow down in the radiator to cool off. Second, running water only will let it boil at a lower temp. (212 degrees) that when mixed with antifreeze. Third, antifreeze helps reduce rust in the engine and calcium deposits in the radiator. The rust and calcium deposits will block water passages that are necessary to cool your engine or at least decrease the rate of water that flows through. The calcium deposits will clog the water passages in the radiator and not allow the water to be cooled. The water will run along the sides of the radiator, (least area for cooling water) and back out. How do I fix it? Put in a thermostat. Pull the radiator out and have it checked. The old days it was possible to do an acid or chemical bath treatment and then "rod" out the passages to open them back up. I think the aluminum radiators are not fixed that way, you may have to buy a new one, which will save you a lot of future headaches. Replace all the hoses, even if they don't look bad. Believe me when I say they are. Have the engine professionally flushed to get as much junk out as possible and open up the water passages that may be blocked from mechanical prevention neglect. Sound like an expense. Yes it is, but only because the $20.00 not spent on antifreeze, or the $20.00 on a new thermostat. Next to go, may be your heater box, but it may not be damaged unless you have been running it several months in the winter without antifreeze to keep it from rusting. Don't forget to change out those water hoses also. Going to the hospital with second and third degree burns on someone's feet is very expensive and painful in more ways than one. This may sound like a scolding, but it isn't. It is just what happens when someone tries to save a buck and not properly maintain the car.

Erikakelly, Did you change your thermostat? If not it may be in need of replacement. Also if you did, or pulled out the old one and put it back, make sure it is in right side up. For it to overheat so quickly, it appears you have a blockage somewhere. Make sure the hoses are not soft and spongy. They can collapse if hot or worn out.Flushing junk from the radiator, may of knocked some old crud lose and blocked several cooling lines inside. Perhaps another flush. If you put new radiator fluid in, save it and reuse it again, but make sure it is clear of contaminates. Pour it through a light cloth or fine filter. There are also two types off water pumps. One goes on the serpentine belt and the other turns in the opposite direction for the v-belts. When you put in the pump, were all the openings clear and not blocked with the gaskets?
