Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I am a 2006 gti owner and am considering a 2004 r32. Most have high miles. Should I expect certain maintenance or service issues?

We've had our R32 since day 1 and have had minimal non-warranty issues. VW replaced the engine long block because of a broken timing chain under warranty. We purchased the 7yr/70K extended warranty when we bought the auto. Just turned 50K miles. I will be replacing a front wheel bearings in the next 2 weekends and prob the lower ball joints. My wife uses as a daily driver and adores the performance and comfort. Looking forward to VW's R model later this year. We don't beat the auto, but it is driven with enthusiasm at every opportunity, so I can't say there has been any unusual maintenance due to our driving habits. The best auto VW has ever produced! I'd say wait a few months for the R to reach our shores and buy it w/an extended warranty. It will be available w/auto and manual transmissions, and is lighter with more power.
