Mazda3 not starting

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2006 manual Mazda3 won't start.
The battery and ignition sound like they are in working order but there is a missing connection. The ignition makes a whirring noise but doesn't tick over.
Could be fuel injectors or something electrical?
Stuck in corner garage, unable to jump start.
Any ideas, please?

A wirring noise sounds like your starter went out. The starter has a little gear that is pushed out and is supposed to meet with the flywheel and turn the engine over. If this doesn't happen the little gear just spins without making contact. Next time it does this tap the starter and then try again. If this helps it start that's a sure-fire way of knowing it's your starter. There is also a service bulletin for the connector on the starter. They corrode on the connector and do not make that good of a connection. This though - usually causes for no noise and nothing at all.
