1991 miata fuel system electrical system

Asked by Gartu Feb 25, 2015 at 10:44 PM about the 1991 Mazda MX-5 Miata Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Besides the fuel pump relay is there an actual fuse for the fuel pump in the Miata? I used
a jumper for the FP and ground. Engine spins but no fuel.  Just wondering if there is a
fuse in the system which would prevent the jumper wire from working.  The engine does
run when I used starting spray. Ran until ether finished.
Thanks,
Gary

It sounds like a bad fuel pump if the relay is good. Miata fuel pumps are cheap and easy to replace. Here is a video that shows access and how to replace the pump. Also you can check over at Miata.net there is lots of useful info there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnNlM9UfEoY

Thank you for the response. I feel comfortable I could change the FP. I just want to eliminate all other possible issues before pulling the FP. This car is garage kept, has very low mileage and does not get driven much. Best guess is it last ran 12 months ago. When I looked at the fuse block in the engine compartment the cover identifies a FP fuse but under the cover it has a label for air bags. A bit nervouse about pulling thus one. Gartu

I believe this might be the relay your looking for which is located under the dash near the steering columb.
