Improving performance

Asked by amd Aug 16, 2010 at 09:30 AM about the 1993 Mazda MX-5 Miata Base

Question type: Car Customization

I have a 93 in excellent condition, but as with all models before 94, Oh so slow! What are
my options ro improve acceleration. Not top speed, but 0-60 peformance.

1 Answer

95

lightened flywheel is both relatively cheap and the miata responds fantastically to it, many miata.net forum emebers report about .5 seconds dropped off their 0-60, ill be able to report my findings as soon as I install mine. Note: installation is not for the faint of heart. also consider lighter wheels as the lighter your wheel the less rotational mass the engine has to turn. Other than lightening your car, consider going FI and buying either a turbo or supercharger as building your engine will be god-awful expensive to do well and wont have huge returns. and as long as your running low boost you wont need to worry about blowing your engine or needing an intercooler. hope that helps
