I have a 2000 Mazda Miata SE with manual 5 speed. Why do I see that for the 2000 year model,

that the standard configuration is for a 6 speed manual transmission? Am I missing something here, or is this a mistake.

I would contact Mazda dealer, yours may have been ordered with a 5-speed.

Yes, yours may have been special ordered with a 5 speed. One reason this might have happened is early in it's production cycle ('99-'01) the NB miatas had problems with the 6 speed transmission, so the original buyer may have been aware of the problem and ordered a 5 speed. The other possible explanation is that the original owner fried the 6 speed tranny and it was cheaper to drop in a 5 speed. I suggest doing some more checking into the history of the vehicle.
