Potential causes for 2003 Mazda MX-5 Miata to start jerking, stall, and then eventually start

Vehicle ran fine then began jerking and stalled.  After sitting for ~ 15 minutes it
started, but check engine light is on.  What are known causes for this?

Have it read for codes, even if the check engine light is NOT on the computer will have stored information and codes. Discount auto stores will read codes for no fee. write them down.

Resolved by finding secondary ignition miss due to worn tune up items. Resolved by replacing ignition wires, boots, and platinum spark plugs. Runs like a gem.
