Steering jerky when cold

Asked by metalleg51 Oct 18, 2016 at 06:12 PM about the 2004 Mazda RX-8 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 RX8 with 80k on it. recently the steering is jerky and hard to turn when started after cool down. No light on dash. problem goes away fairly soon after driving. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. It's getting passed on to my daughter.  Thanks

is the belt tight and not glazzed ?..service the PS pump...replace the fluid and add some LUCAS ps/oil additive to it also.. > www.amazon.com/Lucas-Oil-10442-Steering- Conditioners/dp/B00374HIV0

Unfortunately the RX8 has electrically assisted steering so there isn't a pump. Thanks for the response though

You may be due for a new steering rack or a replacement motor. If there is provision to lube it then have it greased or oil added.
