98 Chevy Malibu

Hi so I recently purchased a 98 Chevy malibu and
ive noticed that when I accelerate it feels like the
transmission is dragging and it makes a loud
roaring sound and the car takes a second then
jumps into gear. My question is Wtf is wrong or
could be wrong with this thing? I need help. Please
