Car acting up

My car started to smoke under the hood the
my battery light was flickering so I let it cool
down then I started it battery light was on
and it idles fine not in gear then out in gear
revs to like 1 or 2 and not enough power to
get out of 1st gear

Did the brake light come on with the battery light? Where was the smoke coming from?
