Mini Cooper won't go

I have a 2006 Mini Cooper when I put it in gear it kinda squats some but will
go at first. After driving it for awhile the rpms start surging up and down
dramatically. It will then barely move doing like 3 mph with accelerator
pushed to the floor. If I park the car and let it cool off it will then go again just
fine before doing the same thing again. I have had this car for 2 yrs and
hardly ever get to drive it, I really need some help as there are no mechanics
near me that works on them.
