2006 Mini Cooper P1142 OBDII Code

Asked by pobauto Nov 23, 2014 at 08:40 PM about the 2006 MINI Cooper Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I would like to know if anyone has a definition for a P1142. It is not listed in a Bentley
Manual that I have. Light was on for a day has been off for 4 days. I cleared the code and
will keep it under observation. Car has 77k miles, is run on 91 Octane fuel and has been
serviced according to schedule by me. I am a retired Master Mechanic. I believe it's a
code for a Bank 1 Sensor 2 Oxygen Sensor. I'm curious as to definition so as to
formulate a repair strategy should the light prove to be a persistent problem. Thank you
for your help.

I don;t know if they cross reference, but in a vw it is a load calc lower limit code. fancy crap for MAF problem or maybe a vac leak.

mikeatprioestlake Thanks for your input. The Bentley Manual lists a P1143 as O2 Sensor Activity Too High (Bank 1, Sensor 2). The next lower listed code is P1139 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit High Voltage (Bank ! Sensor 2). By definition it's an Air/Fuel induction Code and it appears to indicate Bank 1 Sensor 2, however I wouldn't rule out anything. I worked on VW's through D,L and K-Jetronic at a dealership into the early 80's. You have to keep an open mind. I've also seen a few faulty MAF Sensors and more than a few vacuum leaks. Thanks again.

I found an online bentley manual that listed it as load calculation lower limit. which goes back to the maf or vac, damn confusing things these codes! Nice lookin little car by the way, good luck.

Thanks Mike, I'll keep this in mind and hope that the light stays out. It's my wife's, she Loves it. She's had it going on 4 years. It's a 5 speed, gets great milage. fun to drive, handles great on Michelins. My biggest complaint is that it's too noisy with the sunroof open if you're at any speed.
