Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

1992 Volvo 940 leaks a lot of oil, runs very shaky, smokes. I can not afford
to put a lot of money into it. Need to just sell as is, or trade in on  a  used
car with no major problems.  Great  car to work on for those that want a
classic 1992 940 Turbo,  great project car for rebuilding, as everything else
works well,  and the body is in great condition. If I had the extra money
now, upfront, I would  rebuild it and keep it.  I dont, so I need to sell it or
trade it in.  How much can I sell it for in this condition?  A mechanic that
looked at it said I could sell it for $1,000.  What do you say? I need to know
real soon, so I can  get this done.

My guess would be a trade-in deal. Unless, you can do the repairs (parts are cheap) on what sounds like a potentially difficult repair job (expertise is hard to come by). Or unless you can find someone that really wants one of these. Given the needed repairs and age of the car, $1000 sound a little high to me. Sorry. Maybe the mechanic wants it ?
