1998 3.4 gm excessive amount of fuel in cylinder

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

While trying to dry out the cylinders I
found an excessive amount of fuel in
cylinder 4. Leaky injector,  stuck
injector (can they even "stick" open
and cause fuel to dump into the
cylinder), bad pressure regulator?
I've been trying to get this thing to
start for awhile now and hope i've
finally isolated the issue. Any help is
appreciated.  Thanks in advance

Yes they can stick open. But to rule out the regulator you should test the fuel rail pressure. I like to change the injectors as a set. Usually if one has failed the others have been subjected to the same conditions and may fail soon. Is it only number 4? If only one cylinder was over fueling it should still start (even 2). If it won't I would look deeper. Do you have spark at all cylinders?

A severely leaky fuel injector on some engines can hydro-lock a cylinder causing a broken piston or bent connecting rod when trying to start it.
