Limp mode. A fault has been detected in the transmission and it goes in to reduced power to prevent further damage but get you off the road, home, a safe place.....maybe, but it will not shut down entirely..so I may be off base here, just a guess

Appreciate the answers. There wasn't a potato in the tailpipe. The problem was a clogged PCV system. Parts repalced with labor $510.

I am in the wrong business. A PCV system is such a simple, parts inexpensive, accessible, wow that seems steep, even if say $150 alone was for diagnosis, but if it got your car running and you are happy, well so be it. The valve is where the 10 bucks came from.

My car did that this morning. Almost wouldn’t start then I got that message and very little power. It was driving very slowly so I had to return home

I have this issue as well. 2005 volvo has reduced engine performance and won't go faster than 15 MPH. What could be the problem? Took car to dealership as it's the only place that can run diagnostics. Said it was fixed, car worked one day, then next day same problem. Car wont go faster than 20 MPH. Help
