I have a 1999 Volvo S70. How can I tell
if my c v joints are bad .

Drive it in tight circles in a parking lot at a slow speed. A bad CV joint will make a clicking noise.

All of the above, and if you notice CV grease on the wheel well covers, one of the boots are torn, in which case it's easiest to just replace the axle.
