2003 Volvo V40 T4 goes into Limp/safemode while dring

I was wondering if someone had the same
problem. I have an old 2003 Volvo V40 T4. It's the
2liter turbo Automatic.

While driving the yellow arrow starts flashing. And
at a random speed the gearbox goes into
Limpmode. After restarting the car a few times it
goes away for a while.

The errors says Transmation Control Unit. That's it.

Is it that the unit is faulty or just old wiring on the
gearbox. I can't think that I can be the Neutral
Safety Switch because I'm already driving.. Any
ideas?

Really should have the car scanned with vehicle specific scanner for Volvo. Even if you got lucky and put the right part in the system it may need the computer cleared of the pending code(s) You could inspect the wiring on your own for cracks. On some vehicles the fluid will wick from the electrical connector going into the transmission causing problems. There are speed sensors inside the transmission that can have issues and other items such as the valve body, solenoids, etc that get worn or clogged up. So to answer the question what I think it might be? The transmission speed sensor inside the transmission. Good Luck!

Thank you for the info. I'm sending my car to be checked and fixed on Tuesday. The problem is the Volvo dealership couldn't tell me what's really wrong after I've asked for the diagnostics. They cleared the errors but it returned a few days later. It happen every two weeks but now every 2nd day. I'll keep you posted
