Hello david_snelgrove -- To the left of the check engine light on the dashboard of your 1998 Volvo V70 is an arrow indicating that the transmission is in third or low gear or the winter mode has been activated. Since an upwards facing arrow is not far off in appearance from a "lambda", perhaps you are seeing an improperly illumunated arrow. I would have a Volvo technician look at it because you may have a problem, either with the warning or with one of those transmission settings. Good luck from Bovan.

Incorect. Today this happened to me. 5 minutes later the car lost power and died. This is the lambda symble {orange} in a green trianglar yeild type arangment. This not the third gear light as I use the down shift option for going down hills instead of riding the breaks all the time. NOT the same thing. Waiting for results fromthe garage tomorrow.
