Cyclic 'shu shu shu' noise Serpentine belt area

Question type: General

I have a 2006 Outlander and it's begun making a cyclic 'shu shu shu' noise,
no grinding or squealing sounds.Belt looks in good shape, no noticable
wobling from any pulleys,  no overheating, nothing leaking that i've noticed
(aside from the occasional oil drip from a Jiffy Lube screw up that's now
remedied) can a Guru point me in the right direction of what it could be?

It may still be a pulley making the noise, in particular the idler and belt tensioner pulleys, even if they seem fine spinning them by hand, although problem could be in any of the pulley-driven accessories like power steering pump or AC. Check if the the noise matches engine RPM.

If the noise originated from the clutch or compressor, yes. If it's the pulley, which is always spinning, not necessarily.

You can run the engine for several minutes without the serpentine belt on it. Try that and see if noise goes away.

Forgot to mention noise can also be coming from the water pump. A mechanic's stethoscope can really help pinpoint noise sources.

Take the belt off and run it, as suggested. Listen for the noise, if it is gone, something that the belt runs on is making the noise. My guess is an idler or the tensioner. Don't run the engine without a belt more than a minute or so and don't drive it with the belt off.

Also I would recommend taking your Outlander to the dealership for service and avoid the "quick lube" places. The cost will be similar and the service much better.
