I need help locating the source of an oil leak

Asked by Tim Jan 05, 2021 at 08:00 PM about the 2007 Mazda MAZDASPEED3 Sport

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an oil leak.  I cleaned off the engine and then observed it while
running.  The oil appears to be coming from where the block meets the
transmission. it is high up on the top of the castings.  I can't actually see
where it is coming from but it is dry above the spot I can see.  I don't see oil
dripping from above the spot.  I looked from the top and can't see anything
leaking from the valve cover or the head gasket but it is tough to see
everything.  The leak is definately above the rear main seal so I don't think
that is it.  Any ideas ?  Thanks,  Tim

Have a mechanic put dye in the oil and use a black light to find the leak.
