Flasher replacement

Turn signal and flasher only works ocassionally. How do you replace the flasher without damaging vents?

I would first check to see if there is an outstanding recall, by having the VIN of your Malibu ready when you ask, because when I bought my 2000 model year as a used it had an outstanding recall on it and replaced no charge from the dealer (knock on wood when I still had the car, I did not have the problem). The correction from GM was a stronger connection because it was thought to weaken from changes of the temperature coming out of the vents.
