Lights dimming after I installed subwoofer and amp in 2007 Hyundai Sonata 3.3L V6

Asked by Jer Nov 24, 2014 at 02:01 AM about the 2007 Hyundai Sonata GLS FWD

Question type: General

First off, I upgraded my wiring with 4/0 welding cable as so; engine block to battery
neg terminal, battery neg terminal to frame, battery neg terminal to strut tower driver
side, strut tower passenger side to engine block, alternator positive to battery terminal
pos. I installed 0awg power wire (with fuse) to a 1000 watt RMS amp
(http://www.jlaudio.ca/jx1000-1d-car-audio-jx-amplifiers-99397) and have it grounded to
the frame (easily made via fuel sender access panel behind seats). I have the amp's
gain sensitivity set to 47.4 volts and am running a singIe sub
(http://www.jlaudio.ca/12w7-3-car-audio-w7-subwoofer-drivers-92112). My alternator is
stock 130amp, which i have been told by many people involved in high end car audio,
should be able to handle the load of this amp, yet my lights are dimming when I have
volume high and the subs hit. My battery was tested and it's at 700amps. Is my
alternator failing perhaps? Do I need a bigger battery? A secondary agw deep cycle
battery wired in parallel? A higher output Alternator? plz help and thanks in advance.

Update and upgrade your alternator. It seems like you did everything else right.

Add a dual battery isolator so not to pull over draw from alternator. adding a second batt will correct your issue. DON'T RUN IN PARALLEL. WILL BURN UP YOUR ALTERNATOR. PAC battery isolator is all you'll need to get along with a little stinger or gel battery for mounting it any way you'd like. I have a 13 limited with full upgrade on Dimension factory speakers less factory sub i removed and replaced with ported dual 12" subs and pioneer HVT 4 1/4" sub under pass seat. I did no upgrades alternator or extra battery with the new pioneer 8200nex flagship. I fully upgraded audio, remote start alarm and deleted Bluelinks connectivity. All (Diode Dynamics LEDS) are made in STL. HI output and HI end LED's extreme lighting replacements with full HID H/L lights and fogs. All installed with factory alt. with 1 battery it come with. Hits VERY HARD and extreme lumens LED'S you can buy. 410 lumens reverse lights x 2 =820 lumens in reverse. Tags lights are 120 lumens each. Every light has the most extreme lumens led's you can put in it. Enjoy the pic!
