How can I lock the car after I've started it to let it warm up?

You can't. I have tried that with my Corolla. It simply will not lock unless there is somebody in the drivers seat

Might be a great idea to install a remote car starter...great investment since you live in a cold climate state. However, you can only install them on automatic transmission cars and normally you have to sacrifice a spare key (that they mount in near the engine compartment). But you could always have another key made.

But yeah, smoothpappa, even with a remote starter would have to some how disable the safety feature that the car can not lock without weight in the drivers seat, Sure, it would start, but the moment it did it would unlock

Hmm? I've never encountered that problem on any car I had a remote starter installed in @ DavidH25. Perhaps if kellygraham put a big sack of potatoes on the driver's seat that would approximate the weight needed? May sound silly, but Boeing engineers recently did just that when they needed to conduct a test on aircraft seating (they needed something that would stay motionless for several hours...and humans can't do that..lol).

Believe it or not I thought of that, a block of concrete wrapped in a movers blanket, sack of spuds like you say, it just depends on how badly she wants do do this, the convenience factor..or lack of. But my Corolla, a couple of weeks ago at 7AM it was 8 degrees and it was nice and warm inside in 5 to 6 minutes, took longer to thaw ice from windshield, washer fluid was froze and wouldn't spray and I do NOT like scraping glass

I have a remote starter on my 5 speed Corolla. It works awesome. I had it installed at the dealer so Im not sure if they bypassed the seat switch. But I can start it and use the remote to lock and unlock the doors.

Then they had to have disabled the locking/unlocking system. Glad it worked for you!

Even more so after I did a bit of checking around as I am not familiar in the least with the 2007 Toyota Corolla CE. What I do know however is that modern vehicle technology all functions on the same principals. Similar to computers basically. As I was indeed interested in the issue mostly due to some of the answers I read and knowing one of the responders to your question fairly well and respect his opinions immensely, I just had to look into this a little deeper, just my nature when I see something new. And the answers about putting either concrete blocks or a sack of potatoes really got me laughing as I just thought that was just funny sounding and I actually didn't know that there was a system like this. So, I have found out what the system is and have figured out, some what, how this works and there is more than just what I thought as a simple turn of a single sensor and I think it's just a bit more than that, but I am not 100% on that either. But I recently purchased a device that is very capable of accomplishing this disabling of the security feature that Toyota has. Quit interesting actually. The sensors should be the OCCCAN Sensors and or the OCC Sensors, the ones pulled to the right of column should be the sensors, so you say great now what? Click on the pictures, and it's actually occupant not passenger.

I think in the picture above the filtered tension and the filtered pleasure are it and it you set the values to zero, it might work. Now wasn't that fun?? Actually it appears that there are only a few sensors that would actually do anything, so the dealer shouldn't even have a problem disabling this thing.

Well, Smoothpoppa and DaveH25 thanks for the ribbing and compliments of sorts. I am not a engineer in the sense of having a piece of paper that hangs on my wall, I am self educated and have learned by trial and error as a builder and pilot of some extremely high tech and generally over the top performance machines. disabling has, of course, to be done via special equipment and software. So, this frankly was only for the curious or anyone who might have to continuously lug out a sack of potatoes which by the way will not be your normal 5lbs sack as it seems to me that it may be more in the range of 50+ lbs. After all a 5lb sack wouldn't simulate an actual person, oh never mind, LOL...... Of course you could try to get under the seat and just cut all the wires you see and that will I promise fix something, that I am positive about. This week in Daytona Fl. it is testing and practice week for the upcoming Rolex 24hrs of Daytona on Saturday the 26th. This last Sunday at a meeting and after having been involved there for nearly every year of the past 30 I was informed that I wouldn't be needed anymore, at least that's the words I heard, though some are saying I took it wrong. The fact remains, I was to be in Florida last Monday and instead I am thinking about sacks of potatoes, at least I'm good for something, LOL. I am trying hard to make something out of something for lack of a better way to explain how I feel at the moment. I've had auto start on all of my cars best buy installed them.we lived in ALASKA.Never any trouble. Best buy in California.

The one I had installed if anyone broke into the car it would turn off as soon u put your foot on brake. Black widow in brand name.

I recently purchased an old '95 Camry that does this, also. Nothing on the front seat was power/all manual, so I looked under the seat and saw a set of 3 wires leading up under the seat. I cut those. Now when I get out of the car, I can leave it running by locking all the doors with extra key from the drivers door lock. This is important for me as I have a little dog who goes everywhere with me, and I won't leave her in the car in hot summers without the ac running. Mary in Iowa

All I did was to find an old hockey stick and cut it down leaving it about 4" longer spanning from car seat to inside of the roof. Ta! Da! Just make sure you have a foam pad against roof.

I have 2014 Toyota van I warm my van up on cold mornings I start the van with the key get out and lock the van door with the spare and it does lock using the key in the lock.
