You can't. The idle speed is sent to throttle body from the ECU from several inputs, the MAF, Etc. Some sensor is sending a false signal to ECU or has failed. You need an OBDII scan, no matter if the Check Engine Light is lit up or not, that hopefully point you to what sensor is fooling the ECU. Your car has drive-by-wire, or electronic throttle control so there is no adjustment as on a cable. My Corolla idles at about 900 to 1000 warm, 1200 cold, so it's not that bad. Needs attention yes but not critical OR--- You have a vacuum leak somewhere. If you are a DIY guy use an UNLIT propane torch and wave it around the intake and see if it idles even higher... and look for any vacuum hoses disconnected or broken

I've been toying with this problem for a few months with all previous and current answers: Check engine mounts; Check vacuum hoses and air manifold for leaks; Clean throttle body; Clean and test idle air control. No change to idle speed or engine vibration. No ECU problems indicated. By the many member entries with the same or similar problems, I am beginning to believe that this is a cronic and non-adjusting or reversing problem, and "normal behavior" of Toyota cars. A friend with a 2004 Camry has been battling the same problem (high idle and engine vibration) for a few years with no solution from a local Toyota dealer or local repair shop. My question now is, "Can the accelerator pedal sensor positioning be adjusted to lower/raise the idle speed?" Anybody?
No. It can not. I highly wish somebody else will chime in on this thread and either agree or say I am wrong and explain. But the 'drive by-wire' electronic throttle is a rheostat. Non adjustable But as stated. my '06 Corolla, which is identical except trim same engine idles at 900 to 1000 warm. Is your car warming up to middle of gauge? I am beginning to think it's stuck in open loop, when the 02 signals are ignored by ECU for cold start, but not going to closed loop when warm - IF- If that is the case would explain it - the ECU 'thinks' the car is cold
yes,,,, increase the voltage to the hot wire to the electronic throttle position. the more voltage, the faster the idle. it must be done before the regulated voltage. you tube search,,how to find a short. check out all his videos. you will find it. good luck.
Any person still reading this there is a method. I had same issue yesterday. On top of throttle body is a small Allen key that is sealed up so I opened the resin and started to fiddle car was idling at 500 rpm switched it off adjusted screw out and rpm went up. It takes a few tries but got it right. This morning fired her up and the rpm cold was 1000 and idle is 800 I'm pretty happy with thathe.
Could you take a picture? Where is the Allen key and what is covering it up?

Hardus, even after I carefully chipped away the resin the Allen screw would not budge. As a matter of fact I ended up stripping it.
I was able to extract the old idle adjustment screw and replace it with one I took out of a used throttle body I bought for $8. I put the new set screw in and got the idle to a perfect 1000 Rpms after warm up. Very happy! Awesome find hardus!
Is it still 1000rpm after some time? Did ecu change something? @GuruXVGCN this is e12 corolla (2001-2007)
my idle goes up to 2000 when I turn it on and then It goes to 1000 once its warmed up. that is normal?
there is a you tube video which i used to adjust my 04 corolla idle. The dude had a foreign accent but was still easy enough to watch and follow. Do a google search for "how do i adjust the idle on my Toyota corolla" and you will see three vids to choose from, click the one on the left. You will need to have an 8mm box wrench and (I think ) a 6 mm six sided hex "L" shaped wrench. The whole thing should take about 15 min. you will need to start your car first, then drive it around for about 10 minutes until the H/C gauge is in the middle, then pull over and stop the car, leave it running, then do the adjustment shown in the vid, and you will hear the engine idle go up or down, turn the screw right, idle will go up, and left will go down. The dealer told me that when the car is warm it should idle about 800 to 1000 rpm which is an average of 900. My car is working fine and has 228k on it. Good luck hombre. If this dont work you may look into cleaning the throttle body? I didnt bc the vid worked fine for me.
Use brake cleaner to clean the flap. This will allow the flap to seat correctly. Hence allowing the engine to idle correctly. No need for any adjustment!
