2007 RAV4 engine stall/will crank but not start

Asked by KirstenRav4Weiss Aug 16, 2019 at 07:03 AM about the 2007 Toyota RAV4 Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving on the highway when
my 2007 Toyota RAV with 100,000
miles stalled.

The engine would crank but not start.
I just purchased it last week.
I did have them replace the gas tank
and one of the brackets holding the
gas tank as it was dented.

Is it possible replacing the gas tank
could play a role in this issue?

What else could be the problem?

There were no lights or warnings
before this happened.

Thank you!
Kirsten

There are a laundry list of possible causes as ed9262 noted above. As to your first question re: the gas tank. If it was a new tank-but they reinstalled the same fuel pump from your old tank there could have been some "stuff" clogged in the innerworkings and it finally came out, down through the fuel line to your engine. I really doubt this but, it could be. So a check of the fuel line at the engine end may show a "clog". The other items mentioned are very encompassing in their range. So the idea of going to a trusted mechanic and getting a "full diagnoses" of what's going on will give you the knowledge you need to decide what to do next. One problem is the "trusted mechanic" if you have one -great. If your not sure ask friends, family, coworkers, who they recommend. There're good professional business men out there that will give an evaluation and price that is not puffed up with "extras" But trust own feelings when you talk to the mechanic. Let us know how it goes.
